Quick peek into Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Cloud IaaS 2014

I had been waiting to see if there would be any surprises in this year's magic quadrant of Cloud IaaS from Gartner, and there are none. Well, except for one - CenturyLink! In spite of confusing the market with several parallel cloud offerings, and frequent depricated solutions - they could still get into the chart for the first time (moved downwards in ability to execute, and forward as a visionary, and with a name change from Savvis!).

AWS leads with a great mind share as well as market share across the entire ecosystem, and Microsoft caught up with their strong enterprise solutions and partner led customer value creation.

For the predictions of next year in 2015 - I believe we would see IBM & Google moving upwards into the leader quadrant. VMware would be hoping to move upwards in terms of execution, but they may end up faring better as a visionary. The report & Lydia's blog expressed a caution that CSC is more becoming a platform neutral provider with ServiceMesh capability, I believe that is the reason they acquired it as the services market is huge. We may see more of CSC's services play - similar to the Dell announcements last year - rather than continuing to build on their infrastructure play. While CSC may not grow further of this chart in 2015, I believe they would be performing better in services business in the due course.
